Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections appear to be in the long term more effective than steroid injections for tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and pitcher’s elbow, and with fewer side effects.*

The application of PRP to these and other forms of tendinitis and bursitis of the upper extremity for which it is being used is still under clinical investigation.  Components of the patient’s own blood are injected into the inflamed area.  Proteins, which contribute to healing, are released by platelets when removed from the blood stream.

Bracing, physical therapy, ergonomic training, oral and other parenteral medications, rest, and surgery are always discussed in formulating a treatment plan.
